With some things running maybe independently from the computer. They can be merged or split, or filtered out entirely. So far I think I’ll just keep on working with a hybrid setup. Best thing I ever did was ditching my Korg DSS-1’s floppy drive in favour of an HxC floppy emulator. Besides this, the thing needs floppies to backup data, and that’s not something I want to have to mess with. Using it will definitely make my workflow more complex. The MAV-8 is not a new unit but the utility of having four inputs and eight outputs with a switch matrix for MIDI. Still I’m not really getting into the spirit of it, and I just don’t get certain design decisions Yamaha made on it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an extremely powerful and relatively easy to use device, it has a nice big screen and is really well built (love the white computer-key like buttons that give a nice clicking sound when pressed). Which was a major disappointment unfortunately. Third thing I got is Frank’s QY-300 sequencer. I only have to sort out some software issues… the thing will go bezerk from time to time, acting like if someone would turn all the knobs at once. Won’t use it as a looper, since that’s not where it shines most, would be a pity to sacrifice a great delay to use it as a mediocred looper. I bought an Eventide TimeFactor, which is also a great pedal.

I played around with an Electro Harminix 2880 Looper pedal. VPC1 USB MIDI Driver Package for Windows (v2.2) Required for the VPC Editor and software instruments to be used simultaneously. I got to test a couple of hardware devices in the process, but my experience is a mixed one. Now that I had some time to play around and experiment with different solutions I’ve come to the conclusion that this whole project of going computerless won’t work out for me.
